We run a couple of training camps each year -
- A start of season training camp in Lanzarote, focusing on base training, held in late February/early March
- An early race season training camp in Mallorca that provides a great race build and sharpening opportunity, normally early May.
Start of Season Camp - Club La Santa - Feb/March 2013
Our early season camp will take place at Club La Santa, Lanzarote. This camp will once again be run by Richard Hobson and his TriLiving team, and will be specifically tailored for our club. The camp will cater for around 30 members. Full costs, flight details and information on how to book for February/March 2013 will be communicated during October 2012.
About Club La Santa
Club La Santa is the number one sports and active holiday resort in the world and an ideal location to bring partners and family as there are so many activities on offer and also a kids club. It is located on the north east coast of Lanzarote, approx 20mins from Arrecife airport. If you don't know this resort, have a look at www.clublasanta.com.
The running and cycling facilities are awesome, and there is a heated outdoor 50m pool for which we will have up to 6 lanes during the swim sessions, plus open water swimming in the lagoon. The range of optional free classes is far too wide to make informed choices – there are free sessions in windsurfing, spinning, etc.
About the Camp
Our camp will be being tailor-made for our club by Richard Hobson and his company TriLiving, and supported by a team of top coaches. The aim is to provide quality training sessions for all levels of athlete in all three disciplines. The venue lends itself to a relaxed atmosphere since everything is on offer from one location, so there is no time wasted travelling to sessions which means more time to relax and sit by the pool!
Richard Hobson is passionate about the sport of triathlon, having spent 10 years as a pro, 5 times National Champion, Olympic coach to 2 athletes, former performance coach for the BTF & head coach at Bath Triathlon Performance Centre, and age group coach to European and World Age Group qualifiers. He knows what it takes to succeed, whether you are a beginner, an elite performer, doing it for fun, or you want to be the next Olympic Champion; the knowledge and experience to help will be there. Lanzarote offers a great opportunity to train in pleasant conditions at a time of year when the weather in the UK is less than ideal. The temperature is 20C or warmer for most of the year, so a suntan is virtually guaranteed. The roads on the island are quiet and well surfaced, and the facilites at La Santa for running and swimming are superb.
Early Race Season Camp - Blue Bay Resort, Mallorca - May 2013
The second Ful-On Tri Training Camp in 2013 will take place at Blue Bay Resort, Playa de Muro, Mallorca.
This camp will be led by club coaches and will cater for around 40 members.
Blue Bay Resort
The Blue Bay bungalow complex, built in 2004, is surrounded by fragrant pine trees just 150 metres from Playa de Muro. The shops, bars and restaurants of Ca'n Picafort are only a few minutes away. The hotel setting and facilities are ideal for families and lovers of sport. All of the comfortable bedrooms come with a selection of amenities including kitchenette and fridge. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, a heated 6-lane 25m outdoor pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, tennis courts, basketball & volleyball courts, cafe, supermarket, bar, restaurant and bicycle hire and storage facility. Half board accommodation offers a fine buffet at breakfast and in the evenings. Resort website: www.resort-bluebay.com
About the Camp
The emphasis of this camp is as a sharpening camp with a strong 'race around the corner' focus. There will be distinct, specific bike rides with heavy race pace elements, ie. intervals interspersed with the odd longer ride. The camp will also include runs off the bike in the form of specific bricks and key swim sets that address open water/race function and race speed. The daily swim sessions will be led by club coaches in the 25m training pool.
Mallorca is renowned in cycling circles for its extensive network of bike routes. Throughout the spring, pro and top amateur teams base themselves on the island to take advantage of the quiet roads, which wind through gently rolling farmland and challenging mountains, all with incredible scenery. The calm sea in the bay just across the road from the hotel makes a great venue for open water swimming.
How to Book
Details of costs, exact dates, recommended flights, and optional extras such as bike hire for both camps will be communicated in October once the new membership year has started. As a guide, in 2012 the Lanzarote camp was around £499, and Mallorca £399, including coaching and accommodation, but excluding flights, for which you should budget another £150 or so depending on how early you book. Lanzarote generally costs a little more because of the additional training facilities provided at Club La Santa, and the remoteness of the island from Spain.
Feedback from both camps is always positive. We particularly encourage new members to attend these camps - training camp is a great way to really get to know people at the club, make friends and step your training up a gear.
